Just to set the scene:

There she was, his foster, taking Thaddeus for a walk. When both of their spidey senses perked up as they felt they were being followed.

She felt off, Thaddeus was acting weird. Something wasn’t right.

There was a man close behind them, wearing an AT&T technician outfit. He passed them, then oddly, double backed and passed them again. Without any clear reason for being in the area.

That’s when Thaddeus gave the alert to his foster: something isn’t cool about this guy dressed as an AT&T worker. Once the worker realized Thaddeus wasn’t letting anyone sketchy come near his foster mom, the worker quickly buzzed off.

Here’s the thing, scams happen all the time. And people with malicious intentions will always find new ways to target others. Wether it be phone scams, phishing, digital theft or good old fashioned breaking and entering. Being out and about alone can make anyone a target.

One of the newer scams on the block are people in fake AT&T outfits, or other technician looking outfits, claiming they need to either “check equipment” inside your home or around it. This is often used as a way to case the property and find ways to break in.

Now back the Thaddeus!

He has proven himself to be a natural protector with good instincts. Based on the information given to Weird Rescue by his foster mom, she felt 100% safer with Thaddeus by her side.

An extra treat and belly rub for Thaddeus! He is still looking for his forever home to love and protect.

…Which another dog actually did, and that’s upsetting.

However! Thanks to the teamwork between Weird Rescue and Moro’s Hill Pet Care, Dudley is out of the shelter and on the mend with his foster human, Caroline.

No doggie rocks blue quite like Dudley. (But don’t worry, Duds, it’s not for forever!) At this time of this article being written he is already more than 50% healed and is getting stronger every day.

Dudley currently resides in San Diego with Caroline, getting some much needed R+R and snacks galore.

Now, his case ain’t Caroline’s first rodeo, and it won’t be her last. The time dedicated to hosting and healing furry children can’t be measured by dollars and cents, her experience and efforts are a priceless gift, as fostering can take a lot of energy and heart.

Caroline has taught Dudley he’ll never be pushed to the side again. And Dudley has taught Caroline play time means freedom, not just zoomies and fetch. He’s taught her the outdoors isn’t a place to fear, but a blank canvas prepped for bright colors.

Despite all Dudley has been through, he holds a sense of optimism, happiness, and forgiveness for his past treatment. Can’t we all be more like Dudley?

Anyone who says they read the dictionary in their spare time might be lying to you. UNLESS they go by the name of Kristi Kacko, the artist and owner of Dictionary Dogs.

Kristi’s work covers both the furry and non furry pets. Examples being snakes, chickens, piggies, goats, etc.

Why not be a quick study and an animal enthusiast at the same time? Cue the clients of Dictionary Dogs, who want to see their cute pet smothered in words.

This is a big win and deserves a belly rub. Fundraisers and donations such as these help us support our fosters and save more lives.

Not to mention, it warms our wittle hearts.

As for Kristi, fundraisers like these hit different. “I donate pieces throughout the year, but the structure of this one felt more impactful. Being directly involved and engaging with everyone only inspired me to do more just like this. Blending my art and love for animals makes it easy to stay inspired and stay involved with other charities.”

The process of getting a nonprofit up and running is lengthy and slightly anxiety inducing. It’s a system of seeking approvals until finally some stranger backlit by fluorescent lighting says, “Okay, fine.”

But Bri Xandrick and Lauren Avon took that “okay fine” and ran with it. Weird Rescue was birthed. And while most animal rescues usually stop at dogs and cats, Weird Rescue extends beyond.

That random frog that needs to be re-homed? Weird Rescue will handle.

Someone’s three-legged rabbit who needs a new mom? Weird Rescue is on it.

The abandoned parrot squawking at everyone to “f*ck off” and “suck a d*ck”? First Weird Rescue giggles, because that’s funny, but then they help him go to a loving home with a good sense of humor.

Rescues aren’t always sexy. They aren’t always fun. But damnit, they are rewarding.
